The Balvenie Distillery, launched "The Balvenie 21 Year Old Madeira Cask"

The Balvenie, in partnership with DFS Group, launched its 21 Year Old Madeira Cask single malt whisky at Singapore Changi Airport yesterday.

Owned by William Grant & Sons, the Balvenie distillery is located in scenic Scotland, home to many great whiskies. For the launch of their new 21 year old Madeira Cask, the brand has decided to launch exclusively at DFS at Changi Airport, in Singapore.

The Balvenie range consists of unique single malts created by Balvenie Malt Master, David Stewart, who helped the brand earn the title Distiller of the Year eight times. His new creation, uses a rare single malt aged in traditional oak whisky casks for more than two decades. The liquid is then transferred to empty casks that previously held fortified Madeira wine, adding its flavour along with the wood. After a further period of maturation, this expression of The Balvenie's single malt is complete and ready for our drinking pleasure.

The nose on this drink is both fruity and floral, with orange blossoms and pineapple which finish on vanilla syrup. The taste itself is sweet, almost like an fruit salad with honey and cinnamon spices. The finish lingers on the tongue, with the sweetness of vanilla and a spicy, malty layer.

The 21 year old Madeira expression retails at S$295 and for travellers around the world, the showcase of this fine drink will go on until 11 April 2016. For the rest of us, the drink may be a travel exclusive to DFS at Changi Airport for now, but we'll soon be able to get our hands on it when it makes its global debut on 1 April, 2016.
